Explore how smart room technologies, such as Energy Management Systems, Keyless Entry, and Guest Room Management Systems, are shaping greener hotel rooms and contributing to a sustainable future.
In today's fast-paced world, sustainability has become a vital aspect of the Hospitality Industry. Hoteliers around the globe are recognizing the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices to minimize their environmental impact. One significant way to achieve this is through the integration of smart room technologies.
Octopus Systems, the leading Hospitality Systems Integrator in Maldives, is at the forefront of providing complete tech solutions for luxury resorts, with a strong focus on sustainability.
Energy Management System
Efficient energy management is a key element in creating greener hotel rooms. According to a 2021 survey by Booking.com, 83% of hotel guests want to reduce energy consumption.
Energy Management Systems (EMS) enable hotels to optimize energy consumption without compromising guest comfort. Through intelligent automation and real-time monitoring, EMS efficiently controls air conditioning system to minimize energy usage and provide hotels with significant savings.
EMS by Octopus Systems has been tested and proven at a luxury Maldives resort to save up to 50% guest room energy consumption.
Case study
The test was conducted at a five-Star Maldives resort between December 2021 and February 2022. Data was recorded for a total of 70 days. During this period, the two test villas were occupied for a total of 26 days (Villa 109 - EMS) and 30 days (Villa 110 - No EMS).
The 70-day results show an average savings in rented villas of $ 1.65 per day, and an average savings in unrented villas of $ 2.03 per day. The study confirms that significant energy savings can be achieved when employing EMS. Expected payback from the system is under two years.
How it works
1) Room Lock, Occupancy Sensor & Door Sensor detect movement inside the room.
2) Smart Thermostat processes data from the sensors and sends commands to the AC.
3) The AC receives signals from the thermostat and adjusts temperature accordingly.
EMS uses sensors to identify guest behavior inside the room. Once the guest exits the room or opens the door, a smart thermostat sends command to the air conditioning system to increase the temperature. Upon guest’s return, it decreases the temperature back to normal.
This process minimizes the energy usage in the room to lower the property’s carbon emissions and increase energy savings. Furthermore, a simple software provides real-time analytics so you can improve guest experience by analyzing trends and maximize operational efficiency with data driven strategies.
Keyless Entry
Gone are the days of traditional key cards and their associated environmental footprint. Keyless Entry systems revolutionize the guest experience by providing secure and convenient access to hotel rooms through smartphone technology. Not only does this enhance guest satisfaction, but it also eliminates the need for plastic key cards, which often end up in landfills.
By adopting Keyless Entry solutions, hotels can contribute to waste reduction, enhance security, and streamline check-in processes. Octopus Systems' Keyless Entry solutions integrate seamlessly with existing hotel systems, offering a sustainable and user-friendly solution.
Guest Room Management System
Hotels can create customized guest experiences while prioritizing sustainability with Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS). It enables hotels to automate and control various aspects of the guest room based on guest occupancy and preferences, such as lighting, temperature, curtains, and multimedia systems.
As the Hospitality Industry continues to evolve, the adoption of smart room technologies has become a necessity for hotels aiming to create a sustainable future. Octopus Systems, with over 35 years of experience, is committed to providing comprehensive tech solutions for luxury resorts with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
By implementing Energy Management Systems, Keyless Entry solutions, and Guest Room Management Systems, hotels can significantly reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, and enhance guest experiences.
Embracing these greener practices will not only benefit the environment but also contribute to the long-term success of hotels, making a positive impact on both their bottom line and their commitment to corporate social responsibility.
